How to legalise a document
The British Consulate in Mexico City offers a number of notarial services. These may also be available at our Honorary Consulates across Mexico.
In many cases your UK documents will have to be ‘apostilled’ in order to be accepted by the Mexican authorities. This is a legalisation procedure that is carried out by the Documents and Legal Services Department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the UK and not in Mexico.
In the case of UK educational documents you should first contact the British Council.
Fees
Fees will be calculated to the peso equivalent of the pound charge. You can pay for notarial services by cash, visa or mastercard.

Notice of marriage/Certificate of no impediment
You may have been asked for a certificate of no impediment by the registrar in the district where you wish to marry. For the certificate to be issued, you must first attend the consular office in person bringing with you your passport and any divorce documentation if you have been married before. You will complete a notice of marriage form and will be asked to swear an affidavit. This notice of marriage is then posted in the Consulate for 21 days. After 21 days, if no objection has been shown, we will then be able to issue you with a certificate of no impediment in Spanish.
(Please note that this service is not available for religious ceremonies.)
