2. The Foreign Secretary, Rt Hon. David Miliband MP, spoke on strengthening international institutions during the debate on the Queen's Speech looking ahead to 2009. (10 December, 2008)
'...if we want the multilateral architecture to continue to be the basis for international engagement and co-operation in the 21st century, we need to build support for reform...we need fundamental reform of our institutions, notably at the UN.' 4. Prime Minister’s speech at the Lord Mayor’s Banquet – 10 November 2008.
On 10th November 2008 the Prime Minister told guests at the Lord Mayor’s Banquet that the current turmoil in the world economy offers a chance to build a “new global order” based on cooperation and opportunity.
He said, “It is now in our power to come together, confer, and decide and that we must be guided by one clear truth: that we need solutions that can no longer be defined in terms of us and them, but can be achieved only together: as us with them."
