Production of state climate change plans

Cooperation between the British Embassy and state governments of Veracruz, Nuevo León and Chiapas is helping develop decentralised public policies coordindated with the Federal Government (National Institute of Ecology – INE by Spanish acronym), in order to adapt and mitigate local effects of climate change.

The Veracruz Programme for Climate Change (which is the first such plan developed in Mexico, without considering Mexico City), is playing a key role in sharing experience and spreading methodology to promote these plans in all other states of Mexico.

Furthermore, based on scientists’, academics’ and governments’ experience, the British Embassy, in working together with INE is producing a tool kit to develop state climate change plans. This instrument will be key in helping other states develop their own plans.
