Toolkit for improving Sub-National Expenditure

Instituto Mexicano para la Competitividad

With project partner the Mexican Institute for Compettiveness (IMCO) a think tank, we are collaborating on a project aiming to improve the transparency and influencing public policy decisions regarding the transparency and productivity of government expenditure in all Mexican States and in Mexico City.

Our "Toolkit for Improving Sub-National Public Expenditure in Mexico" project was explicitly credited by the Mexican Congress for the “substantial contribution” it made to the General Law for Government Accounting, passed by Congress in Autumn 2008.  In a formal letter of thanks, Congress stated that the “contributions (of this project) were very useful in generating awareness of the need to harmonise public budget accounting, and the need to increase transparency in public spending across all three levels of government."
